RP Anniversary Celebration

There is a community celebration taking place at Alicia
Park on Friday November 30th from 4 to 7 celebrating the 50th
Anniversary of the opening of Rohnert Park's first neighborhood. It
might be a great place for people to go and spread the message about the
impending school closures. Here we are celebrating our community for its
great "Master Plan" and the vision of Paul Golis where "the school would
be the nucleus of a cohesive community" when all the while, two of our
elementary schools are on the chopping block. Seems like a contradiction
to me and a slap in the face to the founders of our city. Kind of puts a
damper on the celebration! It would be nice if we could get a booth or
maybe do a picket to inform people about what is going on. -Tobi Honey.

I think that sounds great. I recall someone mentioning everyone getting together to make banners/pickets etc... Has anyone organized this yet? It was also suggested to me to have some sort of "Childrens March". Maybe this is a good opportunity to start spreading the word to the community that we won't take the school closure recommendations quietly. Has anyone contacted the other schools yet to see if they would want to join us?

Excellent article in the Press Democrate today about yesterdays celbration and the Cotati-Rohnert Park teacher, studetns, and parents support. Well done. You were seen and heard, but respectful of the celebration. Jodi has some great quotes! She is an excellent speaker. I'd post the article, but I am not that up on how to do this blog stuff yet!

It looks like yesterday was a positive step in the right direction.
